Attempt #2

Last year we were all set to go to Egypt and Jordan, but at the last minute, the "Arab Spring" convinced us we should postpone.  So, this year, we are making our attempt #2 and hoping we will get to visit all the pyramids, mastabas, bazaars, museums, burial sites, etc that we so dilligently studied.  Above all, we hope Egypt will remain calm.

Because Cairo is a city of 18 million people and advice from all directions recommend it, we are taking a tour during the first 2 weeks of our 5 week trip.  Usually we travel on our own, but this time we will be in a very small, 4-person tour with our friends Louise and Bruce whom we met and traveled with in Chile.

Our itinerary includes Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, Alexandria, a Nile cruise, and St. Catherine's Monastery on the Sinai Peninsula (all in Egypt).  We then cross over the Red Sea from Nuweiba to Aqaba, Jordan.  In Jordan we visit Aqaba, Wadi Rum, Petra, the Dead Sea, Jerash, and Amman.  Then a run across the border into Israel takes us to Jerusalem, Caesarea, Haifa, and Tel Aviv.  The sights in all these cities and surrounding areas are numerous and are the "meat" of this skeleton itinerary.  We can't wait to enjoy them all.

Meanwhile, we are holding our collective breath for the date we fly to Cairo, Feb 9, and hope that we will not meet with any remnants of protestors.  Last year we had a Plan B which was Morocco, Spain and Portugal, but this year our Plan B is nowhere to be found!
